Schneider Downs Receives the Fred Rogers Good Neighbor Award

United Way of Allegheny County honors regional accounting firm for workplace volunteerism

PITTSBURGH, PA—Schneider Downs & Co., Inc.,  one of the 60 largest certified public accounting and business advisory firms in the United States, was presented with the Fred Rogers Good Neighbor Award from the United Way of Allegheny County.  The Fred Rogers Good Neighbor Award recognizes companies, agencies and volunteers who make a positive impact on the community.

Schneider Downs was awarded the honor for its commitment to workplace volunteerism, namely its involvement with the United Way’s initiatives including Be 1 in a Million, Free Tax Preparation, Open Your Heart to a Senior and Days of Caring.

“This is a very meaningful award,” said Schneider Downs CEO Ray Buehler.  “It speaks volumes about the generosity and goodwill of our employees, and our commitment to serving our community.  Fred Rogers was an iconic philanthropist and humanitarian; it is a tremendous honor to be recognized as a good neighbor.”

This past year, Schneider Downs partnered with the United Way and NeighborWorks America to launch Mentoring Matters, a program through which Schneider Downs professionals provide private coaching to individuals who have expressed an interest in learning more about personal financial matters.  More than 35 of the firm’s Pittsburgh-based professionals participate in the program.

“Our firm has a long standing relationship with the United Way and a rich history of volunteering to assist its member organizations,” said Mr. Buehler.  “There was an increasing need for financial coaching in our area and Mentoring Matters allowed us to use our knowledge and expertise to serve our community.  I was thrilled and overwhelmed by the willingness of our professionals to give back; we’re big-thinking, but we’re also big-hearted.”
