Extended Deadlines Granted for Ohio Property Tax Collection

One of the many ongoing concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic has been understanding the due date for the payment of real property taxes for the second half of tax year 2019. Last month, the Ohio Department of Taxation extended deadlines for collecting these taxes for some counties throughout the state. See below for the list, along with the extended dates:

  • Belmont - August 21
  • Cuyahoga - August 13
  • Delaware - August 20
  • Franklin - August 5
  • Geauga - July 22
  • Hamilton – July 17
  • Monroe - August 19
  • Montgomery - August 14
  • Paulding – August 17
  • Washington -August 14

These extensions were able to be approved based on the tax commissioner’s understanding of Revised Code Section 323.17, which in summary states that the commissioner may extend the timing of tax payments if it’s determined that penalties will accrue due to circumstances beyond the control of taxpayers in the respective county.
