Schneider Downs was my first taste of public accounting. I had an accounting internship last summer, but it was nothing compared to this one. At Schneider Downs, you have huge opportunities for growth in every department. I had done Schneider Downs’ summer leadership program which exposed me to Schneider Downs for the first time. During the two-day leadership program, I was able to meet so many employees of Schneider Downs and talk to them one on one. Because I attended the summer leadership program, I was able to obtain an interview for an audit internship for the following summer.
This internship has truly exceeded my expectations. The interns are treated at staff level and get hands-on experiences. Every person was more than willing to help me out for each audit I worked on. If I was in the office, I was not afraid to ask employees, who I’ve never met, questions about how to do something. Every person I asked for help was extremely nice and took their time to really explain what I was doing and why it was important for the audit, no matter how busy they may have been.
My first week at Schneider Downs, I was thrown straight into the audit, not knowing how to do anything. I was so scared that I was never going to grasp how to do an audit. But over the course of the internship, I’ve realized that I have learned so much in just a little time. These short eight weeks have taught me so much about public accounting, and I have realized that this field is definitely the career path I want to take.
