Do you have a hobby/personal passion?
I love riding horses with my kids and spending time with our dogs and cats. I'm also passionate about learning new cultures, skiing, and finding quiet moments to enjoy a good book—all of which are made even better by a great cup of coffee.

What was the best advice you’ve ever received?
Be on time. It doesn’t need any context or situation, it’s just always applicable.

Who is your role model?
My grandmother.

What was your childhood dream?
As a kid I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and being surrounded by animals. When I used to play Barbie as a little girl, she was always a veterinarian who owned a ranch and had a full stable of horses.

People would be surprised to know that I…
Am still the same outdoorsy girl who loved playing in her grandparents recycling yard filled with scrap parts from oil and gas wells, and played the violin, First Chair, in her junior high school orchestra.

What is the best or most interesting thing about your career?
Watching the lifecycle of tax codes—from their initial concept to their codification into law and their evolution through amendments and issuing of tax regulations. They take on a life of their own and become like old friends once you have seen them through from proposals to law.

What was your first job?
Lifeguard

Do you have a “motto”? (spoken or unspoken)
Facts don't have feelings, but people do. Balance your message so it's not only heard, but also well-received.

When you have an hour of free time, what do you like to do?
Enjoying a book, a blanket, and a quiet room.

Do you have advice for young professionals?
Never pass up an opportunity to learn something new, even if you feel it may be outside your comfort zone. It can really set you apart from others in the future.
