The Ohio Department of Taxation (“Department”) announced that the 2018 tax amnesty program, which was implemented as part of the 2018-2019 biennial budget, will run from January 1, 2018 through February 15, 2018.
Individual and business taxpayers with unreported and underreported tax liabilities in the following categories are eligible to participate in the program: individual income tax; individual school district income tax; employer withholding tax; employer withholding school district income tax; pass-through entity tax; sales tax; use tax; commercial activity tax; financial institutions tax; cigarette or other tobacco products tax; and alcoholic beverage taxes.
The taxes must have been due and payable prior to May 1, 2017; and taxpayers cannot have been contacted by the Department regarding the outstanding liability. In exchange for voluntarily disclosing and satisfying their delinquent tax obligations, the Department is offering taxpayers full abatement of all penalties and is charging only half of the interest otherwise due.
If you believe that you have unreported or underreported tax liabilities with the Department and would like assistance with applying for the program, please contact a member of our State and Local Tax department.
