The Department of Education (ED) conducted a webcast October 14 to clarify a few of the requirements pertinent to disbursements it made under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). Institutions that received funds under A-1, A-2 or A-3 are subject to the following reporting obligations:
- Initial public reporting of student-portion funds that should have occurred within 30 days of receipt.
- Subsequent reports are due quarterly, with the first due October 30 for the period that ended September 30. Following this, reports are due within 10 days of the end of the quarter until all funds are exhausted. Future quarterly reports should apply only to that quarter and not be cumulative. - Annual reporting will be due sometime in early 2021 and will occur via a portal still under development.

Institutions are required to make these reports public and available on their respective websites, preferably in the same location as the initial student-portion public reporting. Once posted, institutions should notify ED via [email protected] with a link to its location.
ED wants the transparency of this information to demonstrate that these funds have been used appropriately to support larger relief and recovery efforts of the federal government. The agency continues to update their FAQs to address additional issues as they arise.
