Hearing the words “Schneider Downs” a year ago as an intern at the firm only brought to mind one thing, an opportunity.
A place to get started professionally and jumpstart my accounting career. Today, hearing “Schneider Downs” resonates deeply with me. It is a second family, it is a place to gather with friends, and it is a place to grow and develop myself while encouraging others to do the same. However, all these things did not come to fruition on my first day as an intern, not even in the first week. It was the culmination of an entire summer and putting in the effort to learn and meet others that made me, in turn, want to do the exact same thing for others.
Calling this place a second family does not come lightly; the people here are different and truly care for one another personally and professionally. It is the goal of everyone here to push others along and hold each other accountable. Coming from The Ohio State University, one of the nation’s largest institutions with over 50,000 students enrolled, attending my Accounting classes with a range of 40-200 students, it was easy to just blend in without being noticed. Often, it took my own encouragement and self determination to seek out guidance and ensure I was taking the right steps to learn and develop. That same approach benefitted me greatly when starting my internship at Schneider Downs, but I would be lying if I did not say it was a breath of fresh air to have a smaller community where it was easy to mesh with others and be able to see familiar faces every single day, people who wanted to see me advance and grow. Having this new motivation now encourages me to pay it forward and help others in any area I can.
This is the culture that is created every day at Schneider Downs and what made coming into work every day as an intern and now as a full-time Tax Analyst so exciting. I am consistently looking ahead to how I can help others inside and outside the firm. Choosing Schneider Downs continues to be one of the best decisions I have made, and I hope others continue to do the same!
