When I met the Schneider Downs recruiters at my college career fair in my Sophomore Year, I immediately felt like it was easy to chat with the professionals at the table.
The recruiters introduced me to the variety of departments and positions that Schneider Downs is composed of and steered me towards applying for the IT Risk Advisory Intern position. I remember after the fair, researching “IT Risk Advisory” to see what that term even meant, and what kind of work I would likely be doing. A lot of different sources popped up, each with a variety of different answers. Safe to say Google wasn’t very helpful to me for learning about this field but all my coworkers at the firm certainly have been!
Going into the field of IT Risk Advisory I didn’t know what to expect, but I immediately felt warmly welcomed into the department. This really helped ease my transition from school life to the new and unfamiliar corporate environment. I slowly got introduced to new assignments and projects as the summer progressed and tried to learn as much as possible from these different responsibilities. I felt like everyone in the department had a lot of trust in my abilities and was willing to answer any questions I had no matter how big or small.
Along the way, I was given good advice from a variety of sources in the department. Whether that was advice on how to approach control testing, methods for interacting with clients or general helpful career tips. Everyone imparted important knowledge that has helped further my development as a professional.
All of the development culminated with work for one of my clients. When we just had wrapped up a meeting, I got a Teams message from some of the staff asking me to lead the next meeting. I was surprised, and a little bit nervous but took the challenge head on. I prepared extensively before the meeting and went through the session smoothly. I am very grateful for my fellow team members’ belief in me. This achievement would not have been possible without the help from everyone involved in IT Risk Advisory.
Overall, I have grown immensely this summer as a professional and I am so thankful to Schneider Downs for providing this opportunity to me. I am excited to finish my senior year and then enter the professional world!
