On Monday, October 14, I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural AI Horizons Pittsburgh event. As I walked the halls of this sold-out, high-energy event, I encountered AI thought-leaders from the business community, academia, and even a robotic dog (which, with the permission of its “handler” I petted)!
The event began with a keynote panel discussion featuring Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Google’s Global Head of Knowledge & Information Products, Government Affairs & Public Policy, Cris Turner, Lovelace AI CEO Dr. Andrew Moore, and Carnegie Mellon University’s President Farnam Jahanian. The discussion was moderated by Laurie Segall, Founder of Mostly Human Media and a former CNN Senior Tech Correspondent. This discussion did a great job of setting the tone for the event, which from my perspective was essentially that Pittsburgh is uniquely positioned to play a major role in the AI innovation and technology space.
The first breakout session that I attended — “Empowering Pittsburgh: AI, Energy, and National Leadership in the Global Economy” — included a panel that discussed Pittsburgh’s potential to lead the next industrial revolution through the development of AI factories and power suppliers.
The second breakout session that I attended — “Empowering a Sustainable Future: AI’s Role in Aiding the Energy Revolution” — included a panel that expanded up my first breakout sessions discussion in terms of how AI is being used now and could be used in the future to connect renewable energy sources to the grid and optimize the operating capabilities of AI factories and data centers.
The final keynote panel discussion of the event discussed AI’s role today and in the future related to public safety.
Takeaways from an R&D Tax Credit Professional
My primary observation from the perspective of a client service professional who enjoys helping organizations who perform research and development that makes our world a better place to obtain R&D tax credits is that there are hundreds of technology companies here in Pittsburgh and probably tens of thousands of technology companies around the country who are developing and / or using AI in ways that would likely qualify for an R&D Tax Credit. And the Schneider Downs R&D Tax Credit team is poised to help.
At Schneider Downs, we can help to review your current R&D Tax Credit calculation or conduct an R&D Tax Credit Study to determine the amount of any potential credits.
We can facilitate your company’s accounting and application for the R&D Tax credit by:
