Logan W. Kowcheck, CPA

Logan joined Schneider Downs in August 2011 and has 13 years of public accounting experience. He has experience serving publicly traded and privately held companies in a variety of industries including energy and natural resources, real estate, manufacturing and retail. Logan’s experience in these industries has resulted in his being identified as a subject matter expert for key clients in these sectors.

Logan is responsible for the coordination, management and overall delivery of services with his clients. Such responsibilities require the ability to develop relationships with clients; knowledge of clients and their industries; understanding of operating and internal control risks and concerns of clients; ability to execute a plan to meet those risks and concerns; and knowledge of financial reporting requirements and prospective changes. Logan regularly attends and speaks at local and national conferences for the energy and natural resources industry and serves on the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Industry Group.

Do you have a hobby/personal passion?
I enjoy coaching my kids’ sports teams and activities. I am also an avid golfer.

What was the best advice you’ve ever received?
I actually have two:

  1. Your life is your responsibility; there is one person and one person alone over whom you have control in this life, and that is yourself.

  2. Define success for yourself.

What was your childhood dream?
To be the 1st baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your college self?
Learn from your mistakes but don’t dwell on them.

What is the best or most interesting thing about your career?
The best part of my career are the clients and co-workers that I have met that have become lifelong friends.

Caddie.

Shareholder JASON LUMPKIN serves as a Practice Unit Leader for SDAdvantage Retirement Solutions. He has more than 17 years of qualified retirement plan experience, primarily serving middle market, closely held businesses. While working with one of our non profit clients, Jason’s team discovered that the organization was failing non-discrimination testing due to poor 401(k) participation among its employees. To address the issue, we recommended the implementation of a second retirement plan, a 403(b) plan, that would cover only the highly paid employees, allowing them to contribute the maximum amounts without concern for the limits imposed by the 401(k) plan’s non-discrimination testing. “These top employees were no longer constrained by the limits of the 401(k) plan testing results,” Jason said. “Plus, the organization no longer had to be concerned about the non-discrimination test.
